Door-TagZ: the system
![]() Door-TagZ is a series of apparatus compartment identification labels from ESM Associates, Inc. Developed by firefighters, Door-TagZ allow your personnel to locate equipment stored on emergency apparatus without delay. Experience has shown that while working at emergency scenes, emergency personnel randomly open and close compartment doors searching for equipment. Rookies and veterans alike waste crucial time looking for needed tools. Today's larger emergency vehicles compound this problem. You can overcome this hurdle in your department by implementing the Door-TagZ system. Door-TagZ assist recruits in finding equipment stored in apparatus compartments. During station duty and trainings, recruits begin to associate the Door-TagZ graphic symbols with particular compartments. In a very short time, new firefighters can go directly to the correct compartment to retrieve need tools. At the emergency scene, Door-TagZ aids both rookie and veterans. When the stress of the emergency work takes its toll on your responders, they can do without the worry of searching for needed tools. With Door-TagZ, mutual-aid companies find it easier to work with first-due companies because they can locate equipment on your apparatus.

Implementing the Door-TagZ SystemSince its introduction in 1989, fire departments and private industry all across the U.S. and internationally continue to enthusiastically implement the Door-TagZ Compartment Identification system. A factor that has contributed to the success of Door-TagZ is ESM Associates' attention to craftsmanship, quality and customer service. We know that apparatus appearance is important to many firefighters. That is why we have designed Door-TagZ to be highly visible, while not detracting from the look of your vehicle. To met your needs, Door-TagZ are available in two formats; a highly visible 4"x4" clear polyester decal and a relocatable 2.5"x2.5" brushed aluminum plate. Your department should review the contents of your vehicles. Compare the results of this survey to the wide variety of Door-TagZ designs available. Also consider which format, Door-TagZ or Door-TagZ/2 meets your needs. When purchasing the original Door-TagZ, white is recommended for darker colored apparatus (red). For lighter apparatus (white or yellow/green), we offer black. Gold is available for those who wish to have the Door-TagZ compliment existing gold trim. When purchasing Door-TagZ/2 consider the length of the bracket that will be used on each door. The mounting brackets are available to mount two, three, or four identifier plates. Blank plates are available to fill extra slots in the mounting brackets. This will allow you to add additional identifier plates in the future. When selecting identifiers, notice that some designs identify specific types of equipment such as SCBA and Eye Protection. Other designs identify groups of equipment such as Traffic Safety for fusees, pylons and reflective vests. |
